Lady's Liver Biopsy

Aug 21, 2008 04:31PM - 13 comments

Lady's biopsy is moved to Monday.  By then she will be done with her antibiotics.  My husband is making a 15 hour drive tomorrow and it worked out better this way.

Lady's liver function test were very bad (2000 points over what they should be).  Her clotting factors were good though.  Hopefully we will find out something that is not terrible.  :-/

I just found out today that our neighbors just had to put their dog down this last week due to LIVER and kidney failure.  They even tested their water and said it was fine.   I guess there dog within 1 month of finding out and getting treated daily could not even stand up.  I feel so very bad for them.  There dog was only about 4-5 years old.  This has me very concerned because my 2 year old Dane had loose bm's for two days this week.  Today they are fine but I'm getting paranoid after the neighbors news.  They (my neighbors) just got a new puppy two days ago.

The specialist office doing the guided ultrasound biopsy said the lab could not look at the biopsy until Monday anyhow so it wouldn't make a difference on waiting until Monday.  I can't wait to find out but don't want my hubby up for over 30+ hours on the road either.

Lady in the mean while has been running and jumping around like a young puppy; though her stool is now yellow her color is still good.  And I'm happy for that but the waiting and wondering is driving me nuts.  "Now I'm questioning the why's and what if's even more"

If anyone reads this say a prayer for her huh.   Thank you.  Amy

Well Lady had her biopsy's done and sent off today.  All went well with her.  She will be on l/d food now along with some cooked goodies of pasta and making treats out of her can food.  We will find out by Thursday what the results are.  I'm hoping they are good. They done a great job with the guided biopsy's and she is actually wanted to run around tonight.  I thought she was treated great at the hospital.  I think we found a new EME hospital and a great internal specialist for our babies.

Lady's acting like a puppy and loved going for a ride despite the Sx.  LOL  Though we are trying to keep it low toned for her and limiting her activity for the next day or two.  Other than that now it's just waiting on the results.  I think we are all going to turn in early tonight though.

My husband God Bless him has been a Sweetheart threw all of this.  Our anniversary is this Wednesday.  Just trying to figure out something special for him.

I am truly thinking about you!!! Animals in our family are just that. A part of the family, you take in an animal it is for keeps thru thick and thin. I have lots of animals. 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 birds. And 4 horses. All but the horses were all rescued.  It takes a special someone to take care of animals.
I will keep watching to see how Lady is feeling.

Lady is a really bizarre case, isn't she?  I can't imagine having lab results like that yet she still runs around and plays.  That is one tough lady!  :-)

mirabella45 Hi;   I have no 2 legged kids but, have been blessed with a lot of 4 legged ones.  I always wanted horses but never had the land so they would have to be boarded out (not enough loving's for them).  Plus I felt as if I could not afford their proper care if they would get sick, toys, shoes, blankets etc..  They are so beautiful!  We like to ride but we just ride other peoples.  It works out fine that we can spoil others though.  LOL  I also have 2 cats.  My cats ate my birds though.  :-( and we have a lot of fish.  It's always nice to meet another animal lover.  Thanks for your concern with Lady.

Jaybay Hi;  Yes Lady has always been an intense case always.  God Bless her.  I remember one time all the dogs came running up on the porch after playing on the hillside.  There was blood everywhere!  Everyone was wagging there tails and acting fine.  One by one I checked them all of them over to find that it was Lady with a bloody foot.  LOL. Cleaned it out, put a pressure wrap on it and took her in for stitches.  She just wagged her tail and was happy to go for a ride late at night.  LOL
Hopefully I will not say the "C" word in a couple of days.  They said it's possible that we just lucked out by the U/A done at home to bring her in the next day (the day she vomited in which was the 3rd day after 2 days of not wanting to eat).  At first I just thought a partial blockage.  (Not that any blockage is good!)  Nevertheless; the day I took her in she was back to acting fine running & wagging her tail, had a BM and was hungry.  I was dumbfounded at that point.  The reason I kept the appointment was due to the home U/A in which showed a very high bilirubin.  Just good luck maybe in having the regent strips at home and testing.  I and everyone was shocked with her lab results.
At this point now we know she has liver disease.  The question now is the "C" word or what caused the liver disease.  Just hoping and praying for the best.  She's on tough happy gal though.  :-)   Catch ya later;  Amy

I'm crossing my fingers for all of you.  If my dogs had fingers, I'd tell them to start crossing!

Swampy wonders if she has been going down to the local bar and doing shots of whiskey at night?

Swampy hopes your critter gets better.

Hi All.  Well we found out good news and bad news on Lady.  The really good news is that she does not have liver cancer.
The bad news is that she has chronic-active hepatitis in which the key point is the inflammation is active which is generally associated with progressive disease.  From what I was told.  She has a combination of mild portal fibrosis and inflammation.  The inflammatory cells are predominantly lymphocytes, plasma cells and neutrophils.  There are a few histiocytes laden with hemosiderin pigment suggestive of copper.  There mild hydropic vacuolar degeneration or hepatocytes.  A copper stain test was not done though to rule out early copper-associated hepatopathy.    Even though the inflammation is mild at this time her prognosis is still guarded.

She will be started on ursodiol 300 mg, SAMe 225, Vit E 200IUs, Amoxicillian 400 mg, Zinc 220 mg, and Pred 20mg. twice daily and colchicine 0.6mg once daily.  Hopefully she will be ok.

If the treatment is successful she can live out her life.  It sounds like a good chance.  If not????????????  Tonight she is not feeling so well.  She will go back to the specialist in two weeks and have her levels re-checked.  MY STUPID INTERNET KEEPS GOING OUT!  VENT!!  Sorry it took me so long today to put this in.  I've been really busy and this is the first I've been able to get off my feet basically all day for more than 15 minute phone calls all day.  Unfortunately this weekend is going to be VERY busy.  Thank you all so very much for your prayers.  She can really use them still.
Take care and thank you all again;  Amy

Oh Amy . . . I'm *SO* glad that it wasn't cancer but I'm sorry about the hepatitis.  I'm so hopeful that the meds will help.  Please keep me posted and know that Lady, and you, are in my prayers.

Hugs

Utahmomma (and the doxies)

My prayers are with you and Lady....God bless her!

by Me967, Aug 30, 2008 11:33AM
Thanks for the prayers and concerns for my Lady.  Yesterday she was having a rough day but today she seems to be doing fine. Bowha.  The main thing now is just giving her pills to her, a proper diet with low activity and stress.
She will have her levels checked again in 2 weeks.  Time will tell; nevertheless, right now I'm happy with her progress.  Thank you all so very much for the prayers and support.  ;-)

I hope you all have a good weekend!  Take care;  Amy.
