Poll - Who moved their child to milk at 1yr old?

Jul 28, 2008 12:18PM - 8 comments

Okay ladies....need your help.

With DD I kept her on the next step formula until about 16 months.....

Had Jake's 9 mos check up and Ped advised to move him to milk at 1yr old....maybe do a mix for the first month 12-13 mos....then by 13 mos...it'll be all milk.

Hmmm....Just wondering.
I don't want to second guess what I did for DD....and with hubby being lactose intolerant...I liked keeping DD on formula longer....

But that feeling of no more formula....the allure of milk cost vs. formula cost....

Opinions?

If you did make the move right at 1 yr old...how did it go?

you want me to remember 9 yrs ago? lol  i think i did the mix then to milk starting at 12 months.  i have had issues with dairy in the past, so i never wanted to start too early.  i dont know about long term formula vs milk, what does your dr say about dh having allergy issues?  i think the move went fairly easy but again that was a long time ago lol

Thanks perty...LOL, yeah - I can barely remember 3 yrs ago when DD turned 1.....

My Ped said, Jake is growing so well and seems so healthy, she sees no reason keeping him on the 'next step' formula....but I just don't know.

I don't know if lactose intolerant is really considered an allergy though?.....He just gets a little gassy....LOL

I started Avery on whole milk at 1 year. The transition went great for us-no problems! Good luck Deanne! :)

1 year for us also. i mixed half and half with formula just to finish what we had left. no problems or issues.

i lied....one issue....diarreha. we switched to 2% after that and have been sticking with that but edward has always had "going" issues. i'm sure you will have no problem.

Oh yeah, I also started out doing half formula-half milk for about 2 weeks! Sorry!

We used Next Step until 18 months for both daughters.  Yes, milk SEEMS to be cheaper, but it goes bad faster than formula.  I liked powdered formula for its convenience when out on a trip (which is always in my house).  However, milk is easier to purchase should you "run out while out and about".

I found when we first switched that I wasted a lot of milk until she grew to like it more.  Choc milk, however, we had a hard time keeping that in the house with the eldest.  She's a choc milk FIEND.

Your choice as to what is more convenient and better for your lifestyle.  I don't think there is a right or wrong answer on this one.

I moved my son onto cows milk at nine months due to a reflux noy being able to keep formula milk down everything was fine still gained alot of weight. When u feel that the time is right to change from formula to normal milk is when u should do it.
