Returning to Work

Jul 20, 2008 12:31AM - 1 comments

It is now the time of year that I have to ready my room for the upcoming school year. I will need to arrange desks, put up border and posters, make the room inviting, create welcome folders for 26 students, copy parent letters, copy grading policy, copy rules and consequences, create name plates for each student, hook up all the computers again, and my list goes on and on and on and on. Since I'm having surgery on Aug. 11, I guess I will need to get started soon. I have to show up for inservice each day beginning on Aug. 5 so that gives me 6 days not counting next week b/c my husband is on vacation and I'm not doing anything school related during his vacation. OMG that just gives me 6 days. Had I not typed this journal, I would not have realized how close I'm cutting things. I will also have to write a week's worth of detailed lesson plans for a substitute for the first week of school before then. WHAT am I doing typing this journal? I need to be working on some of this other stuff. NO, I'm going to calmly get done what I can, when I can. It will get done. I will not stress out over this! Don't you just love self talks?

Hi Karen,
Yes dear, especially when the self talks are as on point as yours.  The work will get done, see if the substitute could be called up for a conference with you since good beginnings are so important.  You show so much dedication and your Principal seems very understanding... so perhaps the sub could even come in for your last inservice day so you are on the "same page" and they could help with any last minute scramble to put up decorations or copy the documents that you have carefully made.

It would help them feel more confident on that crucial first day to have already become familiar with you and the class materials and lessons.  Plus with this connection to you... hopefully they can form a better temporary bond with your 9 and 10 year old "Stars", not to mention the relief you would probably feel in knowing who is in "your classroom"!  Then all you have to do is be a model patient, with less to woory about.  lol, (((HUG))) Susie
