George

Jul 18, 2008 08:37PM - 0 comments

Well 6 weeks ago my boyfriends cousins dog had puppies so yesterday we found ourselves faced with the challenges of this "new" addition to our family.

His name is George.  He is 6 weeks old, he's a boxer-black lab mix but looks identical to his boxer mommy.  Before we picked him up yesterday we went and bought him all the necessities:  Treats, food, a bed, tons of toys, and some teething bones for his little teeth.  Then we headed over to Travis's cousins and picked the little boy up.

Much to our dismay he was lonely and wouldn't eat or play at all pretty much all day.  He would crawl in his little puppy bed and fall asleep for hours at a time.  I actually had to wake him up to give him a bath and take him outside because he wouldn't wake up for anything other than to turn around in a circle and plop back down.  I was really sad and kind of scared.  I thought he might be sick with parvo because my parents dog Max had that when we brought him home and he was very lazy and never wanted to play.

Well George started lightening up a little as the day progressed.  He went potty outside 4 times and inside twice, but we took what we could get and rewarded him imensly for his awesome job of pooping outside which always seems to crack me up when I think back about it.. Lol He goes pee or poop outside and Travis or I will crouch down really low so that we are just above him and say in a really happy baby voice "YAY GEORGE GOES POOPY OUTSIDE!!" or "YAY GEORGE GOES PEEPEE OUTSIDE!" lol I thought it was sooo funny the first time I saw Travis do this because he's normall one of the tough guy "Im bad*** kind of people" so it was really cute to say the least.

So we went to bed around 10:30 last night and brought little George down with us and set his bed next to Travis's bed with his food and water dish in the room. (he hadn't eaten all day, I think it was because he missed his mommy)  At about 11:15 he woke up and started whining so I showed him his food and he ate and drank for about 10 minutes straight.. He was hungry! lol so then I pick him up and bundle up in my robe because it was raining and I took him outside to go potty.  Well It wasn't just raining it was POURING! We were outside for literally 10 seconds and both of us were soaked when we came in and George was so scared he didn't even know what to do outside.  I don't think he could see very well in the rain.  So I brought the poor wet shivvery thing back inside and dried him off and he went back to sleep until about 2:30.

So around 2:30 George wakes up and starts whining.  I take him outside and he doesn't want to go potty.. We stand out there for a good 5 minutes and he wont go.. He must have still been traumatized by the rain.. So I brought him back in and right as I set him by his food he pees on Travis's floor.. LOL so he eats a little and then goes back to sleep.  Around 4 He's at it again.

Now he decided that he's done sleeping and he wants to play.  I get out of bed and I go to take him outside.  He spends about 3 minutes jumping at my feet and attacking them then decides he doesn't want to go potty.  So I bring him back in and finally get him to calm down and put him back in his bed.

He's up again around 6:15.  This time he poops by the door and then whines uncontrollably to get out of the room.  I get up and let him out into the rec room where he runs a few laps, digs at the carpet, and bites his toy giraffe for a good 5 minutes.  Then I try to put him back in his bed to go back to sleep and after fighting with him for a good 15 minutes I give up and let him play by himself on the floor.  He finally went back to sleep.. I dont know when but he ended up in a room across the basement and fell asleep on a pile of blankets.

Travis and I woke up around 9:15 and Travis went to find George.  He brought him in bed and George decided he wanted to spend the next hour biting my hands and wrestling with our blankets.  After he calmed down he fell back asleep and went back in his bed.. I got out of bed around 11 to go to my parents and get ready for work and George woke up so we played for a few minutes and then I put him in bed next to Travis and they both took a nap.. I got back to the house at 1:14 and George was still sleeping lol

So I had quite the grueling night dealing with our new "baby" but it was fun nonetheless.  We are really happy that his potty training is going so well and I can't help but miss him while I type this at my desk at work.  I'll be sure to post pictures of our newest addition soon.  :D
