I am 13 days from surgery deffinantly nervous, worried a little, scared yes but more for my family than me. I hope all goes well. I feel that i have alot of this life to live and so many people to share it with. I am 31 years old and don't have any children. I really want to be a dad. Hope Prayer Faith Love these are my best friends right now.
I had to wait 9 weeks for my thyroid surgery and what I did is found things that helped relax me .. I learned that candles helped keep my wandering mind off things. Maybe try something that you like or something new that you think you may like that will help pass these next 13 days.
I have to tell you that many good things have come my way since my thyroid surgery. I have had the opportunity to redefine myself and my life in all positive ways. It has taught me to admire each sunrise and be thankful for the day as the sun goes down. Each day is a gift. For me, I no longer stress about the small stuff in life. It isn't worth it.
There is nothing to fear, but fear itself ... you are going to be okay regardless of any pathology report or surgical findings. As long as you believe in yourself and those around you, something good will come from this.
I feel better on Synthroid than I did with my own thyroid. I was one of the unlucky 20% whose other half of the thyroid never began to work after my partial Jan '07.
We are surviors on our Thyroid Community no matter what the diagnosis ... we all have thyroid issues and we are here for each other.

Partial Thyroidectomy 1/07 (2 very small papillary micro's incidental findings with 2 larger totally benign adenoma nodules)

I was nervous too, and had to wait 6 weeks for my surgery. The surgery was the easy part for me - and even tho I was nervous about the ease of breathing after, all was great and still is. The miserable, no-salt diet kept me focused - I was more distressed about that, which took my mind off the surgery.
I was not supposed to have cancer, just a multi-nodular thyroid (two nodules, I was told initially, and one was cold but not cancerous), and that turned into more than 12 nodules - none of them cancerous. Like Cheryl, I had two very small papillary findings on the back of my gland. The hardest part was getting this news alone - when I went in to have the stitches out. Like you I focused on my family: I am a 55 year old divorced lady, but probably the stronger one in the family; I was feeling better that it was me than the other family members because I might handle it better. Treatment was OK, and now 4 months later, my attitude is positive and less apprehensive each day.
I DO view things differently.....and with a more upbeat attitude. Again like Cheryl, I love getting up early in the morning and listening to everything else wake up. My two dogs and I go for a walk; I appreciate everything just a little more than I used to. I will come out of this stronger with more sensitivity, and with more appreciation for what I have. I wish that for you too. I'll keep you in my prayers.
