I have a good friend with a 3 1/2 year old who says "I want you to fall into the pool, sink to the bottom, and stop breathing and never come out." You want to know where he got that from? From watching the movie "Hook." He loves pirates so they let him watch it...huge mistake.
If you truly have no idea where this came from, you can have him observed and evaluated by a behavioral specialist or a psychologist. We have students at my school who are truly mentally ill and are already on medication for it by the age of seven. They get sent to the behavioral center and live there for a few days to a month at a time. This is extreme, obviously.
He may be getting it from the TV. I live in FL and the commercials for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios have been showing. They're horrible! It's about Bloody Mary this year and they're so gross...I try to keep the station on PBS Kids these days.
Anyhow-try to figure out where he may have gotten this from. If you can't think of a place, then I would get an evaluation.
with regard to what he watches on tv...i only let him watch things shown on PBS (curious george and such). he attends a respectable day school and it's hard for me to believe that he heard this at school because when i did ask him where he got that from, i know he would tell me he heard it from someone.
the few times he has made a comment of this nature, it was never in a hostile/aggressive manner but moreso as a joke...to be funny. i told him that it made me sad to hear him say things like that to me. he apologized thereafter but it still resounds in my mind. i can't seem to wrap my head around it and it worries me that he does have some mental illness.
anyways, i am definitely going to seek some professional help for him and try to get to the root of it.
thanks again for your time and concern.

This is sort of related to our discussion, but I wanted to tell you what I heard on TV on Sunday. We watch PBS kids in our house too...Clifford, Calliou, Barney...you get it :) Anyhow--I was cooking dinner and Arthur was on...my son usually doesn't watch this, but he was playing with puzzles and kind of paying attention. I was listening to it in the background and heard one of the characters say "I'm gonna kill you!" I was like "WHAT THE HECK?!" Had I just heard that right?
I should have gone over to hit record so I could save it. I couldn't believe it! One of the characters was made at another and that's what they said. Isn't that nuts? No more Arthur in our house!
