Crazy-Good Onion Rings.

by peekawho, Sep 29, 2008 04:48PM
Onion rings that are good for you, and that taste great?  Yep!  Right here!  From Hungry-Girl. Now you can eat an entire mound of onion rings and feel BETTER about yourself, not worse.

1 large (I prefer Vidalia or other sweet) onion
1/2 cup Fiber one Bran Cereal (original flavor)
Salt and spices to taste, optional
1/4 cup liquid Egg Substitute, such as EggBeaters

--Preheat oven to 375.
--Peel onion, remove ends, and cut into 1/2 in slices.  Separate into rings.
--In a food processor, grind cereal into fine crumbs.  Add salt or any spices you like.
--One by one, coat each ring first in egg substitute and then in the cereal crumbs.
--Evenly place rings on a  nonstick baking sheet.  Bake 20-25 min, flipping rings halfway through.

You can eat ALL the onion rings for just 153 calories? Sounds fantastic!

Mmm. Would non-stick cooking spray suffice if you have no non-stick baking sheet??

All the calories will come from whatever you use to dip the onion rings in.

Yes.  Non stick spray will be fine.

I joined the diet forum tonight, are you sure these are safe? J/K  The onion rings sound wonderful. I plan to make them.

This is true.

For Swampy, onion rings serve as a catalyst for the introduction of copious amounts of blue cheese dressing.

I hear you, Swampy.

Blue cheese and onion rings are the BEST!!!

You know I saw the hungry girl gal on QVC the other day ( now that's another story for another time - me and my qvc watching - it's not what you think...lol ) and I noticed she has a thing for using fiber one bran cereal.  Sounded like a good idea but I have to ask - does the cereal do the same thing as the breakfast bars do?  I mean if I could hook my butt up to the car to power it after I eat one of those I'd be set ;)  I hate to start fiber one coating my world if all the products do that...lol.

She uses quite a bit of Fiber One cereal.

Good thinking on the use of flatus as an alternative source of fuel.

by gracefromHHP, Sep 30, 2008 11:56PM
so the cereal does the same thing the bars do? lol
