CT Scan Results in, more RAI ?surgery

by helsurf, Sep 03, 2008 12:29PM
Hi all!

Well i saw the onco today and got the result of my CT scan of neck and chest

The good-ish news is that although the WBS scan showed a lot of uptake in both lungs the CT only showed a small amount of Micro- nodules that the oncologist is happy will be treated with another large dose of RAI (not so good!) in a few months time.

Bad news - The scan also showed enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, so she's gunna take the pics to show her collegues and discuss whether i need further surgery or not!

question for those in the know - i have a small lump on the back of my neck half way down the neck and about an inch over from the ear, could this be a lymph node? i always forget to tell doc about it and have had it for a good few months - oops, i see my GP tomorrow maybe i'll mention it too him.

Thankyou all for the messages of support! don't know how i would have got through all this without you guys :) x x x

loads of love Helen x x x

Hi Sweetie!

I'm so glad you posted, as I have been thinking about you for days.  I'm so sorry about you needing another round of RAI, but it will clean you up once and for all :)  As far as further surgery, we'll cross that bridge AFTER you get married!!  Stay your positive self, Helen!  You will be fine!!!

Lots of love to you,

Shari

Helen,

What can I say but CR@P!   I'm sorry!

RAI is our friend.  Okay, an evil, inconvenient, pain in the butt friend but a friend non the less.

Here's a diagram of the lymph system:
http://www.besthealth.com/besthealth/bodyguide/reftext/html/lymp_sys_fin.html

Sounds like it is a lymph node.

Yeah, enjoy the wedding and the honeymoon then nuke those little monsters!   Remember, my sister went through three doses of the stuff (WBS before the last large dose showed spread into the breasts and liver) and, after the last RAI she's 100% clean and now has a beautiful little girl.

There is life and happiness after RAI and cancer.    Start enjoying your life and worry about the cancer after the wedding!

Thankyou Utah!

I had a look at the link and think it could well be a lymph node,

I often think about your sister cos i would love to have kids one day and do worry a bit about the effect of RAI and TSH supression, everytime you mention her it reminds me that i can have a beautifull baby one day :) when all this treatment is over :)

the good thing is it's taking up the iodine so the RAI should kill it off, yey!

thankyou so much Utah!

big massive ((((((((hugs))))))))

Definitely tell your Doc .... you may recall I had what they thought was a swollen lymph node 1/4" above my incision .. it appeared immediately after surgery while in the hospital the size of a pea and grew.  Is yours the same size?

Mine turned out to be a cyst which we never knew I had that ruptured and was infected and the lump that formed and grew and grew was scar tissue all around it to actually protect the surrounding areas ... it was totally benign .... I kept saying it was tight and they kept saying it was from the surgery incision and 6weeks after surgery when I had this so-called lymph node removed it was no longer tight .. the darn thing was pressing in on my trachea!!!!!!  I must have had a cyst that ruptured during surgery and then grew benign scar tissue ..

So I have two incisions for one condition LOL ....

In your case, soundsl ike a lymph node that is *pesky* cause of the disruption ... but you have to have it checked.

Thank you for posting your good-ish news .. it is great news considering what they could have found my friend ...

WEDDING BELLS .. soon!

C~
