Itching Episodes / Hot Ears with Trigeminal Neuralgia

by tryingtosmile, Jul 28, 2008 10:14AM
I have had TN for almost 5 years and have had MVD, Gamma Knife, blocks and now balloon compression. I have noted a couple symptoms that I haven't heard of anyone else mentioning. On occasion I get INTENSE itching on my scalp and forehead. If I scrach it as you can imagine it is soooo... sensitive I get horrible shooting pains. Especially the forehead. The scalp is more severly sensitive. Sometimes these episodes, I've noticed, are pre-cursors to my cluster headache attacks. Also..I've been noticing that my left ear will get so hot it feels as though it's on fire and sometimes it itches too. My TN is on the left. I do get terrible shocks in my ear. Just wondered if anyone has heard of these "BONUS" symtoms.

I am not diagnosed with TN but have a lot of facial symptoms including electric shocks.

YES to the itching--at the time my symptoms started, I had months of specific itchy spots on my face and scalp. One of the worst was a kind of line up the right side of my forehead.

Others included the right cheekbone and a spot behind my left ear. I can't even remember them all (this was years ago).

I do remember that I would itch all around the edges of my eyelids and all around the very edge of my mouth. Also the very tip-top of my ears and the earlobes.

I had other itchy spots on my body too. The very worst was a big spot on my right outer shin. After months of scratching there was very little hair there, and the skin had become kind of thick and rough.

Oh----I forgot the NOSE, that was the WORST!! I would get tickly "cat hair" on the tip of my nose, and a "stabbing itch" up my left nostril. Sometimes I would go around with a Kleenex stuck up my left nostril to forestall the "stabbing-itch" attacks. These would last for a half hour or more and recur several times daily.

I still sometimes get the "cat hair" on the nostril, but this is MUCH reduced in severity and frequency from the early years.

SO much weird stuff...
