Thinking tooth is loose

by babes2008, Jul 13, 2008 02:48PM
I think that one particular tooth (under a fang so this tooth is slightly more back than the rest of my teeth) is loose when it really isn't. My dentist checked my tooth a few days back and said it feels quite solid and not loose, so why am i feeling this way? Also i can't help physically checking the tooth with my fingers, will this cause it damage? This only started when i had severe toothache from another tooth which is now thankfully sorted. Do you think it's stemmed from an anxiety of some sort? I also wanted ortodontic treatment but my dentist seems hesitant in referring me (here in the UK we have to have a referral for orthodontic treatment) although perhaps that's because i've had problems in the past with needing quite a few fillings etc, although i've had all the necessary treatment and my teeth have gotten a lot better. Does anyone know of any orthodontic practices in the UK (West Midlands) which offer a consulation without a referral?

Sorry about all the questions. Would be greatly appreciated if you could reply.

If your dentist says the tooth is solid, I would have to assume there is no problem with it.  Since you had an infection on another tooth, if it was next to the "loose" tooth, it may be possible that the infection has loosen the tooth a little bit in terms of bone loss and that with the clearing of the infection, the bone should regenerate and tighten the tooth.

As for orthodontic treatment, you would have to ask your dentist as to why he won't or is hesitant to make a referral.  If your mouth is healthy, there shouldn't be any reason not to do orthodontics if that's what you want.  You may need the referral and discuss orthodontic treatment with your orthodontists to see what risks are involved that maybe your dentist is concerned about.

As for a referral, I don't know of any orthodontists in the UK.  Sorry.

Thank you for your reply Jerome, that's reassuring to know.

At my next check up i shall speak to my dentist about referring me for the orthodontic consultation.

Thanks for your speedy reply, greatly appreciated.
