pain after filling

by nicnac1111, Jul 13, 2008 07:52AM
I had eight teeth filled in one visit. One tooth has pain when you tap it. It also has a stabbing pain when I eat. It is a molar tooth. There is no visable redness or swelling. It's been 2 weeks now. I have told the dentist twice about this tooth. He keeps saying it's normal and will go away soon. But It seems to be getting worse, any sugestions would help me. Thanks, NIkcnac1111

There are lots of reasons why the tooth may hurt after fillings are done.  The most common cause is the occlusion, meaning that the filling may be a little be high and needs to be reduced to alleviate the trauma from chewing.  I would go to your dentist to evaluate your situation.

He has already ground it down, and my bite feels fine. It does not feel high. But hurts when I eat.

Is there hot or cold sensitivity too?  If there is hot/cold sensitivity, it may need a root canal depending on the severity.

Have you had a cleaning done?  Sometimes pain on chewing can also be caused by the gums.
