fatigue

What causes the muscle fatigue?  Is it an "exercise to get better"  thing, or a "rest and let the cells recover " thing?  Does over-exertion slow recovery?

Hi There,
There are many reasons for muscle fatigue. It depends on context. If you are receiving chemotherapy with a taxane agent such as paclitaxel, this agent can cause pain and ache in the muscles.
This is a temporary but difficult side effect and usually resolves within a week. It sometimes does require pain medication.

Other muscle problems can occur because of imbalances in the chemistries such as
potassium
calcium
magnesium
If you have not had recent labs, it is good to check.

Finally, fatigue can occur because of deconditioning. That is, for people who have been through a long illness and have not been able to exercise, the muscles are weak. It requires slow daily incremental increases in exercise to regain muscle strength.
If possible, getting a personal trainer can be helpful so that one does not over do it and hurt oneself.
best wishes

there are other medical reasons such as adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction. You should ask you doctor about these issues.
