Went to L&D today... no fun!

by martikadragoon, Jul 08, 2008 08:57PM
I was having some cramping all morning and (TMI) I've had the runs for the last 3 days.  Then I began getting BH contractions again, and had 4 within about 40min. They kept getting closer together, so after the 4th one spoke to some friends who told me I might as well go in and get checked out.

So I called DH to pick me up from work. This was after a couple friends there urged me again to go in and get checked  out.

When I got there they put me on the monitors and I was having tiny contractions every so often, nothing regular. They determined that I was dehydrated and probably had a flu that's going around that causes bad diarreah(sp?) for like a week.

Well, TJ HATED the monitors, spent the whole time kicking them and making all sorts of noise (each kick causes a "whoop" on the monitor... kind of cool) even funnier when he got hiccups and we could HEAR them before we left.

They gave me IV fluids, and about 4 hrs later I went home. I had my first IV EVER today too.. that sucked! it went in my hand because due to my skin problem, it's nearly impossible to get a good vein in my arm.

They told me from now on to drink 1/2-1 GALLON of water a day and to go see my doctor for a follow up. (I went to the local hospital, not one thats a while away.)  I'm home now, but pretty tired. I've been having  more pressure in my "frontal" area, like I've been punched or something there. But I figure that's par for the course. also the whole time the monitors were on TJ spent shoving his body against different parts of my stomach as if trying to push them off. it was SO uncomfortable.

I'm just really glad everything turned out ok and it was something minor.

Oh... I forgot to add, DH was kind of freaking out taking me to the hospital. He wasn't speeding but definitely wasn't taking his time. I was completely calm and he was silently freaking out and only admitted to it when I called him on it. It really made me see that he DOES care about how I am and how TJ is.

he also got the wierdest look on his face as the nurse was trying to find TJ's HB. He was all on the right side of my stomach, so she tried the left, then top, then bottom for a while before the right side. DH had this mix of Fear and terror and worry on his face. I just smiled before she found it and told him... TJ's on THIS side! he then smiled when she finally located his HB and he began kicking the little monitor thingy. He's been on my case since we got home to finish my big jug of water... I expect he'll be like this until I deliver!

Thats good you feel reassured about your DH. I'm sure he cares very much even though he doesn't always show it. I'm glad everything worked out. Drink up!

Thnx... he just grabbed my almost empty HUGE 50+ oz water bottle and shook it saying "drink up!" lol.

It stinks you went through that but I just have to say a big, hearty AWWWW! about DH. He does care! Men are just weird about showing it. Not to mention pregnancy is a lot more surreal to them. All they see is their wife's body morphing and their moods changing and they sometimes get a good kick from the baby. Otherwise it's all very vague until you're rushing off to the hospital. He's going to be a great dad!

Joy~ I KNOW... he's worried about that but I keep telling him he'll be a great daddy. I think if the time came he'd definitely pull thru if I needed him there (Early birth or something crazy like that.)  As long as he doesn't kill us on the way there!

Ha ha! I hear ya!!! Except when the time came for us to go to the hospital, my hubby took the LONG way and he drove like a snail. Oh well! At least we got there.

:) He almost got into an accident, mainly because there was an old lady who acted like she was turning left and didn't. And he didn't pay close enough attention and almost hit her.
BTW he read what I wrote after I wrote it, and just smiled...
