i am 5 days s/p extraction of abcessed molar with bone graph. surface of gum area is off white, foul tasting and smelling, gum swollen between cheek and gum, pain about same last few days - a 2-3 on scale of 1-10. i am on amox and an rx antibiotic mouth rinse. i am on soft diet, not chewing anything but soup on other side. i am an RN- hospital work, can't take anything for pain that impairs judgement, taking 4-800mg Ibuprophen q 6h.

Usually with dry socket, there is extreme pain.  This pain is generally more severe than a toothache itself.  Additionally, upon inspection, you can see the alveolar bone in the socket.

I would recommend continuing the antibiotics and using the mouth rinse to try to keep the area clean.  It may be that food is being trapped inside the socket and leaving a foul odor or irritation of the gums.  You can also go back to your dentist for an evaluation and perhaps irrigation of the area to remove any debris.
