Confusing symptoms

Hello Dr Hook, I shall get straight to the point

Early December 2007 - Protected sex with a fellow student, noticed that the condom slipped off halfway through for a brief moment so i replaced it.
Early May - Tested for gon/chlam/hiv all negative.
23 May - Unprotected oral for approx 1-2 minutes followed by protected sex
2 June - Protected vaginal sex
22 June - Woke up (following 3 nights of heavy drinking) with tingling at tip of penis, got very paranoid about herpes, no symptoms apart from occasional tingling and slight stinging(no more than a second or two)
Up until today - Random tingling etc. many times where i would not notice, put it down to anxiety and stress.

Today - Woke up the morning after returning from a holiday (again after nights of heavy drinking), had a bright red rash on penis glans(normal papules are red&inflamed) and 2 fairly symmetrical rashes on 4skin just under head. Urinated while in shower and had a sticky cloudy(ish) discharge seconds later. No other discharge seen the past few weeks apart from clear liquid at tip within an hour of urination/masterbation. sometimes outside these.

The rashes calmed down, just the left one remained on foreskin, got a little worse and now it is a generalised redness. Went to urinate before going to bed, the middle of penis was hard, almost as if erect without getting bigger, then relaxed after a few minutes. Have many bumps below the head which worried me but think were already there, appear to be under skin, not superficial.

1)Could this be herpes or anything else serious?
2) I went to clinic last week, said they didnt see anything wrong, got a swab but couldnt test for herpes
3) Got a doctor friend to look at a pic (not great quality) and he said its prob nothing serious, that condoms are v.nearly 100% effective and symptoms would appear 4-10 days after with blisters, as opposed to tingling/stinging for 17 days then a rash appearing 5 weeks after intercourse, is this true?

Any advice is appreciated!

If you got an STD it was most likely from one of your recent exposures no one of the ones in December of May.  The symptoms of most STDs (herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc) typically appear within 10 days of exposure.  By your history however most of the exposures during the relevant time period were protected, making STD unlikely.
As for your symptoms, the rashes you describe, as well as the "bumps" do not sound like a typical STD of any sort.  I would not worry about them, particularly since they were looked at by doctors.

On the other hand, an otherwise unexplained penile discharge warrants a bit more consideration.  I would suggest you see a health care provider for a test for white blood cells in a swab specimen from your penis or in a urine specimen taken at a time at least an hour after you last voided and at the beginning of urination, not in the middle of voiding.  In addition, I would have the urine or swab specimen also tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia.  If all of those tests are negative, you have nothing to worry about.  My guess is that all of the tests will be negative.  Good Luck.  EWH

p.s.  I agree with all that your doctor friend said as well.

Thank you for your reply, I definitely feel a lot better. When would be the best time to get another test? I went a week ago (4weeks after possible exposure) & they said if I didn't hear anything within 3 weeks to assume its fine.

Also 1) had a lot of on/off diarrhoea the past few weeks, and again this morning, could this just be from stressing out about it?
2) when I was at the clinic I explained about a rash in the right side of my groin in the fold, they gave me an antifungal cream, it is still there but probably but because I only used the cream a couple of times in the past week, I'm assuming this is nothing to be concerned over and could it be related to my other rashes?

Thanks again!
