Question about M/C and sex

by Jen133, Jul 08, 2008 11:54AM
Is it true that you cn't have sex after you have a m/c?  I keep hearing that you have to wait until you get your first period again.  Is this true????

My dr. said no sex for 2week but I also had a d&c........ps. I only waited a week.......

it depends.  if you had a d and c then you are supposed to wait 2 weeks for sex cause it can cause an infection.  i am not sure about a natural MC, if there is risk for infection.  i would say you can look it up online.  i know you are suppsoed to wait at least 1-2 cycles before trying to get pregnant again to give your body a little time to heal.  i have had 2 M'C's myself but had d and c's both times.

2 weeks is what you need to wait because you could get an infection.

If you had a natural miscarriage you can have sex as soon as you feel ready and don't have any bleeding and pain.  sicne your misscarriage was so early then it can be counted almost as a regular cycle so your body should go back to its regular cycle as if nothing happened. So have sex whenever you feel ready.

Yep, I think it depends how severe your mc was. I had a natural one that wasn't all that painful. So as soon as the bleeding pretty much let up we started again, as I felt really good. Just be gentle - your body will let you know if it's not feeling right!

Thanks.... that's what I thought too.  I read alot about how a m/c last 3 or 4 days but mines was only like one day maybe two.  I'm also reading how some women here got pregnant 2 weeks after m/c.  I just don't want to have sex, get pregnant and then have another m/c.  that will be very hard.

That would be horrible - I'm having the same fear! Want to be pregnant so bad, yet so afraid of losing another! They do say that if you have had one mc, the chance of you carrying your next to full term is very good. All you can do is think positive!

My doc said not to until the bleeding had stopped.

Hi, I had m/c on the 23rd june, 5 days later I had intercourse I had completely stopped bleeding though.  I think you should definately wait until the bleeding has stopped, im sure you will know when you are ready again for intercourse!

by Mumita, Jul 08, 2008 01:53PM
Well no one and nothing can tell you whether you will have a m/c again or not. There's not much you can do to avoid it and nothing you have done to cause it.  So just keep on trying and hope for the best.
Your body will decide when its ready to conceive again so whether you plan it now or in 5 months your body decides. So, there's nothing you can do but keep trying.

Rule of thumb is 2 weeks after d&c, im not sure about a natural m/c.  I just had s-ex today, after d&c on june 17th, my body was ready but i was not ready mentally.  So if your not bleeding and feel up to it, do it.  It also doesnt hurt to just see what your ob recommends also.

Sorry for your loss, if you need to chat leave a message.
