Crib to Bed

by Tamara551, Jul 08, 2008 10:22AM
We are thinking about changing my DD crib to the daybed.  She is 19m old.  I don't know how to go about doing this.  I am afraid she will get up in the middle of the night or in the morning before we do and get into something she shouldn't.  But on the other note she is putting her leg over the railing (mattress all the way down and rail all the way up).  I am afraid one of these days she is going to make it over and hurt herself.  How do I keep her in her bed?  Any advise would be great.  Thanks ahead of time.

Can you turn your crib around? The back of my crib is much higher than the front and I think that is our next step. Mine has climbed out "once" and throws her leg over a lot to get my attention. My pediatrician says go ahead and make the change but I'm not ready for my freedom to be totally over. I have an 8 week old also (dd is 21mo). Good luck to you!

That's what I did. We turned the crib around so that the shorter side faced the wall. It was harder to get him in and out but it worked. We were able to keep him in the crib until he was 2 1/2. After that, you may want to put a safety gate across her door to keep her from wandering around the house at night. And keep some quiet toys in her room that she can play with if she wakes up like books and stuffed animals.
Hope that helps a bit!

Unfortunalty our crib is the same height on both sides.  I guess I will just have to put up gates.  I am so scared to leave her in the crib.  She get about half way up.  I don't think it will be long before she makes it over.  Thanks for the suggestions.

What about a crib tent?  I know many people who use them and swear by them.  They're available at Babies R Us.

My baby is due in less than 7 weeks and I am going to put my 20 month son in a full size bed.  I got the bed rails from babiesrus, you can also get it from First Step Ahead.  Probably should put up a gate at the door so your 19 month old won't be able to get out of the room in the middle of the night.

Tamara -

I put my DD in a toddler bed at 19 months too.  She did great!  We are in a 2nd story so we put gates at the top of the stairs.

We were worried about all kinds of things, same as you.

But the thing is, she never got out of bed.  She would call for us when she needed us.  And if she did get out of bed to read books, etc....she always get right back in and she would never leave her room...LOL

I think she was a little creeped out.

She is now almost 4 and in a full size bed.  Still in the middle of the night, she'll call for us....but if it's morning....she always comes to wake Momma and Dadda before going downstairs and getting into something....

My little guy is 10 months and climbs everything. He climbs his baby gate, So, my thinking is, if you LO is climbing the crib, she'll climb the gate too! lol I would double up on gates (2 high). Worked for our high jumpin' dog! LOL
