Prayer Request

by Searching48507, Jul 02, 2008 08:14PM
Ladies,
This is totally unrelated to ovarian cancer, but I need your prayers.  My brother (42 year old insulin dependent diabetic) went into a diabetic coma this morning.  My husband and I found him on the floor at home and had to call 911.  He is in intensive care on a respirator and his kidney's have shut down.  Please pray for him.  He's been so depressed since our  mom passed in May that he hasn't been taking care of his diabetes.  His name is Phillip and I appreciate any and all prayers.

Thank you all for your prayers of support.  Phillip is in critical but stable condition.  His kidneys still are not functioning and they did dialysis on him this afternoon.  He is still on the respirator as they don't want to bring him out of the sedation until they can get the kidneys under control.  We are praying for no brain damage.  When we found him he was breathing but very fast and shallow and not enough oxygen to support the brain.

Thanks everyone.  He is out of the coma, off the respirator, and the kidneys are slowing functioning.  Now, we are dealing with the "mental" depression issues.  Whenever he sees me, he pretends he is paralyzed.  Good thing I have a sense of humor and can laugh.  Yesterday he did the I can't move and can only blink my eyes for the Neurologist.  When I told him that the doctor was the Neurologist and if he didn't move his arms that he was going to have a lot of tests, he raised both his arms.  What a little sh#$ head.
But he's alive and recogonizes us, the rest we can deal with!!!
Love,
Karen

I am a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic for the last 44 years or since I was 14 years old..  I also have stage IV ovarian cancer... Do me a favor and ask your brother which organ he wants to give up?  Ask him if he wants to be blind, an amputee or a vegetable with a stroke... Its not an easy feat to take care of diabetes beleive me I know but I also know that with every breath I take I want to live...He is is desperate need of psychiatric counseling... When I was in my 20s one night I decided to drink too much and not watch my eating... Iwound up in the hospital with a DKA coma and am lucky I lived.. we don't get too many chances... I hope that your brother does well but that he allowed himself to get in that condition shows he has a problem.. My problem was a ex husband that had just left me with a 2 week old baby, a 6 year old and a 9 year old and cleaned out all the money,,,, AIl I wanted was to drink away my problems.. never did it again... Thats not to say now I don't enjoy a glass of wine... but I also know other ways to handle things now... and I handle a lot with having both...

I send good wishes.. and please take this with the intent I send it.. I hope for good things for your brother... Ronni

I apologize for not seeing your post sooner. God be with you and your family, and provide the wisdom and guidance you will all need in the coming weeks. He said He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is with you now through this stressful time.
