feeling sick witih unclear symptoms

by glueby, Jun 24, 2008 01:04PM
I keep having these episodes where i begin feeling weak and disoriented...sometimes I get double vision when I move my eyes during this,  I feel nauseated and get near syncope everytime I stand up, but only during these episodes.     I don't know what brings it on.  It just happens randomly.  And then goes away randomly after several minutes or several hours.   My heart also feels like it's beating funny/too hard when I get these episodes.    I get dizzy.  I usually am left with a headache and feeling very tired after the episodes go away.    When i start getting the headache, I am always glad because I know that's the signal it's going away.  I can deal with the headache more than the other.     1 more thing is I get a murmur and near syncope/shortness of breath when I walk up stairs sometimes, and I have a medium meningioma in my head.

Some tests I've had:
MRI of brain
EEG
Had abnormal perfusion in the LAD from thallium stress test, which lead to Cardiac CT, calcium score 0, arteries clean
Chest Xray
Echocardiogram
The usual labs, SED rate 0, BNP normal

The only thing besides the "false positive stress test" was that my red blood cells (hemoglobin) have been consistantly somewhat on the high side around 15-17,  I keep wondering if this slightly high number can actually make me feel so bizarre all the time and cause these episodes.   I keep wondering if I donate some blood or have a phlebotomy would I feel better?

stats:  male, white,  30,   25 pounds over weight  exercise almost daily (try to)

You need to wear an event monitor to document what you heart is doing during these episodes, specifically one would look for evidence of arrhythmia.  Also, to rule out hemochromocytoma and polycytemia you should have a blood smear and a further blood work.  I am not sure how the meniniogioma plays into this.  typically, these are benign tumors that only become problematic if they cause compression symptoms.  it's possible, however, unlikely given its size, that it could be affecting your brain to cause catecholamine release and the symptoms that you are describing.

You are obviously very sensitive to the signals your body puts out, perhaps even too sensitive.  One big question, and one I think is more pressing than your cardiac worries:

What is the status of your meningioma?  Although this type of tumor is considered more or less "benign," it still occupies space in the brain, it can grow, and it can obviously be a factor when considering neurological symptoms.

my doctor doesn't think the meningioma is causing this and  he doesn't know what it is

More information would be useful, so here are several more questions for you, if you don't mind:

Exactly where is your meningioma?

What size is it? ( "Medium" is a tad vague.)

How is it being treated?

Is the doctor who feels the meningioma is not responsible for your symptoms a neurologist or oncologist?

Betsy, are you trying to scare the **** out of him?      You reply is very vague,  what do you mean by "see comments on sob or yawning"?   What was wrong with your daughter?

I have posted this comment also under children and cardiac arrest... (Respiratory forum)
ok, here were the symptoms of my now deceased daughter..after going to the hospital 3x and dr were unable to figure out what was wrong with her.. im hoping that someone out there can relate or provide some type of answer..
My dear daughter would wake up in middle of the night and would say, "mom, I cant breathe" then she would sit on the bed and go through this episode and then she would say her ears would pop, followed by dizziness, then she would go limp,(fall over and unable to stand on her own),
her lips would go blue, skin would go clammy, she would clench her fists, kick her legs and eyes would gloss over, looking confused or has seen something strange..she would appear to be in pain, not sure if it was in her chest or her stomach.. the 3 times this happened prior to her death, she would come out of it and would feel chills, then she would be back to herself and wouldnt even know what just happened to her??
the last time this happened the paramedics took her out of our apt and her heart just stopped as he took her down to the ambulance..
Tests that were done were CT scans, seizure tests, echo-cardiogram, asthma, allergies were ruled out and all tests came back normal; few ple i have spoken with say it sounds like a heart attack like symptoms..
She wouldn't be able to walk a short distance and she would gasp for air..I am awaiting for the autopsy results which should be in by end of this week, so Im really hoping that a DR or someone out there can provide me some answers.. this is a serious thing!! This episode happened very suddenly and occurred concurrently on the same day of the week, same time (usu.  between 2am-4am); three weekends in a row..b4 succumbing to her death..

(on another thread)

Hi well i received my daughters autospy results and came  up with nothing..all her organs were good, it had nothing to do with gastric, or reflux, thyroidal or anything of the sort..even her lungs were good. the only thing they found was related to her left ventricle but the dr said it couldnt have been the cause of her death..so im figuring that it has to do with stress, fear or nervousness as well could be related to my dad passing 2 months prior to her death.. or it was just her time.. so good luck to all, hope that you find out what the cause or problem is.. Im left with nothing else to hope for.. but at least you still have hope..

Im on here to find some closure for my daughter's death, trying 2 find some possible answer...
