How do I get my son to eat more?

by Beckymsmiles, Jun 22, 2008 10:04PM
My son is 9years old and VERY thin. To thin I am afraid for his health. I have tryed so many things to get him to eat.
I am now going to a dietition for help. My boy is so thin you can see all of his bones in his back and ribs. So my question is how do I get him to have more meat on his bones ?
I have tred so much and am so tired of him being teased and gettting looked at like I am a bad mother. He wants to gain weight but refuses to eat hardly anything now. What should I do. could it be a high metabolism? or an eating disorder? Please help us!

From the measurements you stated, your son's weight is in the 75th percentile for his age and weight is 90th percentile for his age. He is normal for his age even though he may appear thin. Suggest Instant Carnation Breakfast drink 1-2 times a day instead of milk to help gain extra protein and calories. Make a milkshake with it too by adding ice cream. Get him involved by helping you make the milkshakes. Children love to help with cooking and hopefully will increase their 'want' to eat and try new food.
