im a 36 yr female. smoke a little (3-4) daily. i eat a very healthy diet. i have been having intestinal problems for about 8 years and just thought it was milk allergy. something like that. in the past month i have been having very upset swollen bowels and have been putting off seeing a doc. now im having chest pains that wrap around my neck and armpit then run down my left arm. i have shortness of breath and it seems almost like i have to tell myself to breath. those have been going on for a few weeks. yesterday, for some mild rectal bleeding,  i went to the doctor and she said that i have anxiety and hemoroids. they  took my temp and b.p. with no exam and sent me away with prescriptions for stool softeners and anxiety pills. should i get a second oppinion? i was hoping they would be at least a bit concerned about the chest pain.

I think it is worth talking to someone else if you are not satisfied with the answer but it does sound like anxiety.  There medications that help anxiety, try to avoid the ones that are addictive like xanax, ativan, valium.

I hope you feel better soon.
