by opalprince, Apr 21, 2008 11:12AM
my son is nine years old, we just moved to a new place and for the past two months and more he has these rash on his arms and legs, that at first was under the skin then develope a top coat that looks like when you get burn.  His peditrician didn't know what it was so we went to see a dermologist he gave us this cream TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE 0.1% for fougera and said it is stem from his Asthma which i don't buy ; because i had asthma as a child and never experince anything like that.  I have a feeling it might be shingles .  We have been using this ointment for more than three weeks and it seems to be spreading.  Should i have him see another doctor? and have his blood tested? Thanks very much.

Sounds like a bad case of eczema, which is related to allergies...which is probably the source of your child's asthma.

Triamcinolone is used for controlling eczema, however, if it is not doing it's job (and on our child it didn't hardly make a dent in the eczema), then return to the doc.  There are a number of ointments to try, it'll just be trial and error to see which one will be effective against the rash.  There is something called Hylira that we are currently using that seems to be pretty effective keeping the rash at bay once the other ointment knocked it down.

Go back to your doc and make sure, but it sounds like eczema from which there really is no cure.  He'll either outgrow it or fight it all his life.

Good luck to you!

PS...shingles runs along the path of a nerve.  It's usually on the trunk (one sided usually), but can be on the neck, face, legs, and arms.  It'll run along a path and not usually in a large area to start.  It's more like lines that sometimes cross each other, but mostly like lines on paper. I had it on my lower rib cage area, one side only..but it ran to my back before it was over.  The blisters are red, inflamed, and gooey.  Eczema is usually dry, but has the bumps that start have a flower kind of look to it.

To: rash on son
It's not exzema, he had exzema and now it's all gone so i know what it looks like.  His last doctor had given him FLUCINONIDE ointment .5% that helps and he hasn't have exzema for the past five years.  I know it's a steriod so i only use it as need, he has really bad allegries to some tree and some food and fruits so i was also wondering is it something at school.  Now i'm even wondering if there is asbestoes in the house we are living in.  We have just recently moved to Germany and are living in one of those older homes.  I use Aveeno product for his bath and so fourth since he was a baby so nothing in that sense has changed. Thanks for you reply

It could be a contact allergy, but it will probably be very difficult to pinpoint...might be mold, mildew or dustmites.  Is there an allergist you could go talk to?
That would be the next thing to try....see if an allergist specialist could help.

Sorry, I don't think I've been helpful...
