Confused by 3 different test results (HELP!)

by Jayden716, Jul 20, 2007 01:51AM
I had a stress test, echocardiogram and a heart catheterization all done in a 2 day period. The echocardiogram and stress test were done on one day and the heart catheterization on the following day. The echocardiogram measured my EJECTION FRACTION AT 55% and heart catheterization  measured it at 50%. The weird thing is that the stress test measured the EJECTION FRACTION at 40%. So according to the echocardiogram and the heart catheterization my EJECTION FRACTION is normal at 50-55%. According to the stress test it is abnormal at 40%. Are the echocardiogram and heart catheterization more accurate than the stress test? Or is it normal for the EJECTION FRACTION to be lower while exercising? (By the way, my heart catheterization showed no abnormalities or blockages and the cardiologist told me that I DO NOT have heart disease).

I think that the cath is the gold standard.  It is more difficult to measure the EF during the stress echo, but it is supposed to go up with exercise.  The good news is that your doctor told you that you have no abnormalities or blockages and that you do NOT have heart disease!  Believe him and congratulations!

i just had the same thing happen. about 8 months ago my echo said EF 60 %   then repeat echo 4 months later EF says 55%.   Now i took an exercize cardiolite stress test last week and report says 49% .. Doc didnt say anything about this. said my stress test is good. no blockages. doesnt this sound weird. dropping EF? especiall since the last one is the stress test EF where i would assume EF should actually be higher since you're exercizing?
