Gained 70 lbs and counting...32 weeks

by thendricks, Jan 17, 2007 12:00AM
Just wondering how many other preggo's have gained over 50 lbs during their pregnancy so far... I have been pregnant for over a year straight now (not counting the 6 weeks between a loss at 20 weeks and getting pregnant again) It has really taken a tol on my body, I'm not complaining believe me, I'm just so happy my pregnancy is healthy!!! I'm just wondering why my doc doesn't seem concerned, he says don't worry it isn't affecting your pregnancy, it's just the way yopur body is handeling the pregnancy, My issue is that I'm looking at possibly 2 months left if I go full term(doubtful but possible) If so I'm looking at another 12-15 lbs... I can't walk or exercise i'm high risk and it's just not worth taking the chance...So besides eating as healthy as possible does anyone have any ideas for me to try and keep my weight to a minimum the last few weeks of my pregnancy??? Thanks and sticky baby dust to us all!!!!

With eating healthy--try and avoid carbs (refined sugars, white bread and pastas) Eat healthy carbs in fruits and veggies.  I know you can't extercise the normal way, but maybe try an acquatics class they are low impact and can give you some muscle tone..and the water will give you bouncy to help reduce thepressure of being up and around.

I know how you feel,  I am 30 weeks!!!!   I have been gaining normally the past 7 months then all of a sudden I gained 15 lbs in 2weeks!!!!  AND I AM WALKING 20 MINUTES A DAY, I am a nurse and work full time so I am active throughout the day, I am by no means lazy, just very tired.  Now I need to see the OB weekly and get another ultrasound becasue I am measuring LGA.   I feel very guilty and that I ate wrong didn't move enough and just feel like a plain blimp.  I was already heavy to begin with and now the extra weight is taking its toll on me physically and emotionally.  I am 5'2 and my husband is 6'6 so I tell myself maybe it will be a big baby. I am not even at the point were the baby it at a rapid gain..he should only be 3 lbs...

I have gained about 30 lbs. and I am 23 1/2 weeks and at my doctors visit last week they were not happy.  They wanted me to see a nutritionist but my insurance won't cover it.  I am happy that they won't cover it because I do not think that I need to see a nutritionist.  I figure I will gain at least 50 lbs.  Good luck to you.  I hope everything goes well.  :)

Hey.. I was wondering, how much did you weigh prepregnancy.  I was 157 (not small but it fit me well I think) and 5'3.  Now i'm still obviously 5'3 but last dr's visit I was 175 :-( So I'm thinking I'll go up to at least 190.

I was in the 150's around 158 most of the time.  I am about 5'6" and now I am pushing 190! UGHH!  I am going to be over 200 lbs.  I just hope I can lose it again after the baby comes.  How are you feeling??  :)

I'm 24w1d and I've gained 18 lbs this time. I started with an extra 12 pounds because of previous miscarriage. With Marcus I gained almost 60lbs and I'm only 5'5". That doctor never said anything. On Monday I went for my check up and I told the nurse I gained a little. I actually gained 11 lbs in 5 weeks. I figure they say 1-2 lbs per week, so I wasn't that bad. She seemed to think I should not have been more that 8, but I didn't really get yelled at.

I wouldn't worry about your weight, you have other reasons and your doctor is right. Just enjoy the pregnancy and everything will work out.

My chiropractors wife gained 98 lbs with each son. She is about 5'7" and average size. All people are different.

I was 165 to start with (I am 5'8") So not fat, but not slim:(  I went up to 200lbs by the end...I swam EVERY day and was extremely cautious with what I ate.  2 weeks postpartum I lost all the weight minus 8 lbs --which I still struggle with.  It turns out I was retaining a ton of water and that is why my weight went up so high.  I also drank gallons and gallons of water when I was pregnant--people around me were amazed at how much water a person could drink.  So I guess my point is make sure are you really eating healthy?? Avoid salt, sodium (hidden in prepared--canned foods etc) If you have the time, make your own food so at least you know what is in it.  Avoid the fats and white carbs, get some exercise and you will be alright.

I gained 8 lbs. in 4 weeks last visit and they acted like it was terrible.  I wish I went to your doctor.  I almost left in tears because they were like you need to see a nutritionist and it will be interesting to see how your glucose tolerance test turns out-which I go for on Feb. 6th.  Good luck to you!! :)

I think they are being to hard on you.  I gained 8 lbs in 4 weeks to, last visit.  My Dr. wouldnt have even bought it up if I didnt. Then when I did, she said, It's ok, we'll let you get away with it this time. Dont worry to much. IT was the holiday season and EVERYONE gains weight, even us pregos!  HOw could you not, there is so much great food around. :-)

:)

I agree with Newbie2b, It was Christmas.... show me one pregnant women or normal woman that wouldn't gain a little extra at that time. Especially if you have a lot of family to visit.

I think your weight shouldn't be an issue unless it causes the baby problems, but the doctors know for the most part the only person to suffer is us after the baby is born.

I know everyone talks about the sugar test but I've never had one, they have never mentioned it, and I never had one with Marcus.  Do they only check that if sugar is found in your urine?

GNicole, I can't recall if you said you have other children or if this is your first.  Are you feeling well other that then doctors making you sad?

Gnicole: I know what you mean, I'm so ready for her to be here already.  I want my body back and I just want the scary part (labor) to be over. :-)

Marcusmommy: I think that a lot of dr's offer the glocouce test to pregnany mommy's because it can be a potentially bad situation for baby and mommy if it turns out positive.  They usually offer it around the 24th week.  Not sure why they wait so long but, I guess it's the standard. I'm taking mine next wensday.

Cantwait: I sent you an email on myspace and when I checked my sent box, it wasn't there.  I dont know what happened.  I hope all goes well on your GD test.  You have to tell us how it went. I heard they were trying to figure out a way that we could eat special jelly beans instead of drinking that stuff. Yuck!

This is my first child.  I had an early miscarriage last July. I feel pretty good other than the normal stuff(tired, heartburn and swollen ankles).  My blood pressure is always good, so I am no too worried.

My doctor doesn't do the glucose test until you are 26-28 weeks. Good luck on your tests.  :)  I still have so much to do like go register and get her room ready.  I am starting to feel a little stressed.  :(
